On Monday – January 21st, I went to the 15th Annual Martin Luther King Breakfast in Fayetteville, NC. There must have been over 2,000 people in attendance – It was wonderful and very inspiring!
As I sat there at the table with my wife, my mother and a few of the local elected officials, I began to wonder about my dreams. I started to think about the ones that have come true and the ones that I have given up on.
I began to wonder if other people would like to share about their dreams. As a result, I’ve decided to have a special radio show on about the fulfillment of our dreams.

Have you ever wondered how does what we say today impact our lives tomorrow?
Our choice of words can move us in a direction toward or away from effective personal and professional relationships and we are in charge of that choice. Positive direction means that the words we speak steer us toward the successes or outcomes that we want or need with others.

About The Author
J. Bert Freeman is the author of Taking Charge of Your Positive Direction (Trafford 2006). His quest is to help everyone expand their capacity to make positive direction a consistent part of their lives. He primarily focuses on organizational unity, leadership consistency and workplace diversity, as well as personal and professional relationships.
In the mid 1980’s, J. Bert Freeman created skills called Verbal POSITIVE APPROACHTM. As a result, he founded T.A.L.K. Associates in 1987. Since then, his work evolved into CONSISTENT POSITIVE DIRECTIONTM, yet a higher dimension of Human Interaction.
He is joined by a team of facilitators and experts, with years of experience in providing expert assistance for organizational unity and equity and leadership consistency. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Masters Degree in Human Relations from Golden Gate University.
While at the U.S. Naval Academy, he was an NCAA 1st Team All-American in fencing and the first African American to be selected as NCAA Fencer of the Year. In 1970, he was the first African American and the first fencer to receive the Naval Academy’s award for athletic excellence, given to one graduate each year (the 1965 recipient was Roger Staubach). In 1972, J. Bert Freeman was a U.S. National Champion and a member of the U.S. Olympic Fencing Team in Munich.

As I examine my life, my first thoughts are normally about what’s not working or what I don’t like about it. Most of the time, I’m looking at what I’m doing wrong or the mistakes that I have made along the way or second guessing my decisions and choices. Even though this is probably not the most empowering way to look at life, I still find myself visiting this dark and gloomy place. Do you know what I mean?
I know that I’m suppose to stay positive and empowered and stand in my vision. However, it seems so hard some time. Ya know?
Fortunately, I have an opportunity to look at what I’m thankful for…instead of what’s not working. I can spend my time acknowledging what is working…instead of what’s wrong. I now realize that I can powerfully accept past decisions and choices that I have made in my life, then use them to discover the lesson that life is teaching me.
So, on that note, I want to acknowledge what I am thank for…An Attitude of Gratitude!
Starting with my immediate family, I am thankful for my wife and daughter. They are a major source of inspiration for me. They give me strength and energy when I’m feeling low and a sense of pride when I’m at the top of my game. I love both of them very much and I’m really happy that they are a part of my life.
As I look at my expanded family, I am thankful for my brother, my sisters, my mother and father, my step father, my step mother, my mother-in-law and father-in-law, my sisters-in-law, my aunts, uncles, cousins and all of my nieces and nephews. I am also thankful for my late grandmothers and grandfathers. Even though, sometimes we don’t always agree with each other, I believe in family and I really love my family.
The next group of people that I am thankful for are my friends, clients and business partners. Now, you may be wondering why I group all of these people together or maybe your not….maybe I just am…Well, at any rate, I believe in relationships and for me, the relationship is everything. So, while a lot of my friends are not my clients or business partners, most of my clients and business partners are becoming really good friends of mine. I am really thankful for having this kind of quality in my relationships with them.
I am thankful for my health, well-being and mind. I know that god has given my a gift and has blessed me to endure all of the tests, trials & challenges. I know that there is much, much more for me to contribute to humanity and I’m thankful for the creativity, insights, talents and opportunities that I have to make a difference to the world!
I am also thankful for you….(who me?)…yes you. For without you, I could not be me!
If you were not there, I wouldn’t have anyone to share my vision with, I would not have anyone to acknowledge what I’m thankful for, I would not be able to contribute and make a difference with you and I would not be able to learn what you have to contribute to the world and to me — so, thank you for being you and thank you for reading this article. I really appreciate it.
In addition, I am thankful for all for this wonderful technology that allows me to share my vision and my life with you. As a matter of fact, it provides an opportunity for everyone to play a much bigger game in life.

In today’s fast times, we are all very busy getting things done. For most of us, it all starts in the morning somewhere between 5am – 9am. We get up, brush our teeth, shower, put on our clothes, eat breakfast, get the kids ready for school, clean up, take out the trash and a variety of other things — then we are off to work.
We work all day long – writing proposals, answering questions, talking with clients, vendors & partners, interacting with our bosses, employees, co-workers and peers, putting out fires, staring fires ( smile 🙂 ) and so on and so on and so on…then we return home to cook/eat, feed the kids, work on homework, more cleaning, talk with our special someone, try to relax a little and go to sleep.
The next day it starts all over again….
So, how do you create a life filled with joy and ease? How do you get to the point where you are excited and looking forward to each new day?
You first have to determine what you want. I mean, really, really want for yourself and your life. Most of us are on automatic pilot. Just living from day-to-day, week-to-week and year-to-year with a few new adventures in our lives. Most of us never really stop to ask ourselves what do we want?
Since, we don’t usually ask ourselves this question, I’m going to ask you now…What do you want? I know that you are probably saying to yourself, what do you mean, what do I want? I want a lot of things you may say.
Then I would say, like what? Like I want to live in a big house or travel the world or visit my family more often or grow my business. Then I would ask you, what would it be like to live in a big house or travel the world or visit your family more often or grow your business?
You would actually begin to explore the real possibility of having what you really want and start taking actions consistant with what you want. Now, I know that it seems to be much easier said than done. It may take some time and you may need some additional support from others that are committed to you having what you want.
On the radio show today, I interviewed Joyce Porter – a 72 year-young woman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She begin sharing the whole process of “Falling Awake”. After a life time of counseling others, she woke up! She saids that she is more alive today than she ever was. During this process of examining what she really wanted, she discovered her essential purpose and was immediately propel into action.

As a way of demonstrating the type of work that they do with people, she ask me to share with her what I wanted. So, I told here that I wanted to spend more time with my family – my wife and daughter, as well as, my parents, in-laws, nieces and newphews. In addition, I would like to travel world checking out the latest and greatess new technology and gadgets. Then somehow share it with others in a way that they can see new possibilities for themselves and their lives. The 3rd thing that I want is to lead or facilitate some type of workshop or seminar that transform people’s lives, communities and businesses.
As I began to listen to her repeat what I said, it started to become clearer to me how I could make it happen. I mean, how I could start making it happen now, instead of someday when I get it all together. Do you know what I mean – when I someday?
I started to see that someday could be today!
I also saw that I was already in the process of having what I want, just not at the level that I would really like. I am now exploring a number of options to fund what I want for myself & my family. As a matter of fact, my wife and I are attending a workshop on creating multiple streams of income with real estate, stocks, tax liens and the internet. I’ll share more about that in another article.

Consider this…Everything that’s happening in your life – right now, you have attracted!
If you have a great relationship, you attracted it. If you are struggling with money, you have attracted. If you find yourself happy with your life, you have attracted it. If you blaming someone else, you have attracted that as well.
The Universal Law of Attraction works like any other universal law. It works all the time and it works everytime!
Now, I have to tell you…it took me some time to begin to accept this universal law. For the life of me, I just couldn’t understand why I would go through these periods of feeling like I’m on top of the world and then periods of feeling like I’m inadequate.
Do you know what I mean? Have you ever had that kind of experience?
For the last few years, I’ve been examining what I have attracted. I’ve been looking at my relationships – the really empowering ones and the not-so empowering ones. I’ve been looking at my business & personal finance. Some areas are really exciting, while others could stand lots of improvement. I’ve been looking at my health and the aches and pains that I have attracted. I’ve just been looking at every area of my life – the good, the bad & the ugly. (That was actually the name of a old Clint Eastwood movie)
One of the great realizations of accepting the Law of Attraction is that somewhere along the way, you will discover that you can attract anything that you want in life…I really do mean anything!
As you begin to understand the real power of attraction, you will begin to create and concentrate on what you really want out of life. Love, Romance, Money, Respect, Power, Freedom & Full Self-Expression.
It’s all yours for the asking…If you are willing to Ask for what you really want, Believe that it is already yours with absolute certainty that you deserve it and prepare yourself to Receive it…then, begin to take the actions required to put yourself in position. You must be an opening, a clearing, available to receive what you are asking for. This has been the hardest part for me and is typically the hardest part for most people. Sometimes along the way, I stop believing and at that point the universe stops working on my behalf.
